Just a thread where we can post different news topics, quirky or serious.

This is the weirdest story I've read in awhile:

OK - while a creative way to get rid of human waste - just think of the blecky consequences of an eruption. No thanks.

I am shocked at that the death toll in the VA Tech shootings has risen to 31 people (including the gunman). WOW! That's just horrible....

It's giving me chills. We're watching CNN at work. 31 people dead and 29 injured. It's hard to believe that possibly one guy has caused this much chaos. My heart goes out the family and friends of everyone involved.

If an incident like that isnt enough to make congress consider tigher gun laws, then I dont know what is.

I've only read the headlines and probably won't read or watch any coverage. It's just too upsetting. Things like this make me so damned angry.

Am watching CNN now...I find it hard to believe that ONE person could do that much damage. WOW....shocking.

Footage they are showing right now really only has the sounds of the shots being fired...over and over...shocking.

While watching CNN, the scrolling headlines cought my attention when I read 5000 rabbits were loose on the highway after a truck crashed in Hungary.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/04 ... index.html

The shooting is a tragic event, but I couldn't help but laugh when I thought about that many rabbits running around in one place.

Sometimes you just have to laugh, to keep from crying. The world is a very messed up place.

Hehe. Rabbits spawn like there is no tomorrow. LOL. That would be a funny cartoon...a bunch of rabbits causing an accident.

Tighter gun laws? Why so? And what would the restrictions be?

That's so awful! That's all anyone is talking about on campus today. I too am amazed that all of that was caused by a single person.

What's almost as scary as the shootings themselves is that there were two hours between the two sets of shootings. And the university apparently sent out email updates to warn and keep people informed. Huh? :? Email is a good idea, but it shouldn't be the main method in a situation like that. Realistically speaking, how many people check their email before going to class? I don't, and I'm a computer science major. People there didn't realize anything was happening until they were in the middle of it. A lot of students were discussing this on the way home from class, and nobody here has a clue how our school would communicate with us in that type of situation.

I thought this was pretty sick that someone would do this. Any story on rape is always disturbing:

I m always shocked that no one had the courage to do something to stop this guy or ppl that do these type of things. There are only so many bullets in a freaking gun before he has to reload, and not like he has eyeballs in the back of his head to see what ppl are doing especially when you firing a weapon without hearing protection, you are pretty deaf after the first 10 shots.

From what I saw and heard of the video they had on CNN, this guy was firing in rapid succession which means that he would not have had time to move, and shoot accurately, plus he would have to reload like crazy. Sooner or later he would run out of magazines to switch to and have to hand reload those magazines. And this action is slow at the best of times, not to mention his heart was probably racing, unsteady hands, and he would have to stop to perform this action.

Enough of me ranting about the incident at VT, maybe it was my professional occupation kicking in. But ppl wake up, the actions of that one person could be reciprocated by the actions of another person to stop him when he first started, except no one had the courage and heart to stand up and take action.

------
Anyway, those 5000 rabbits will turn into 15,000 by the time they get them all.

It wasn't that no one had the courage, no one on the Virginia Tech campus was allowed to carry a gun. You kill a madman with a gun...with a gun. The whole thing just makes me realize what kind of sick world we're really living in.

Just saw this on our nightly news. I'm so friggin' mad that I'm going to have a hard time going to sleep now.

http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/ ... e6a05.html

What the article doesn't say is that the girl's parents have decided to send her to a "special" school that claims to cure her sexuality. Plus, they blame public school for this "abomination".

Makes me want to throw up.

They blame public school for her sexuality? I'd say it has more to do with genetics than anything...and that can't be cured.

Jesus. :P :? What in the hell is wrong with people? Everyone has to control the "normalness" of stuff all the time. Just let life be lived and love one another. If only the energy that is put into this kind of hatred and discrimination were put into loving each other, the world would be SO much better, and we'd all be happier.

Well lookie here, just proof that it doesn't matter how old you are. A 95 year old woman just graduated from college.

Also grandma found a condom in her McDonalds bag. Funny.

Law & Order SVU has had a couple episodes where groups, or people have been trying to change gay people to straight. Of course since its SVU someone always dies, but still, its just amazing to see these anti-gay people talk, like "I Can Fix You". Its odd. I cant believe people actually think that way.
