Seattle recommendations

Postby kookie21 » Thu May 03, 2012 2:45 pm

Ok, not sure if this deserves a whole topic, so feel free to move or tell me to go to another thread but....

my friend is visiting Seattle in the summer, and after reading a blog post about the 50 best places for a burger and Lunchbox in Seattle being mentioned (a blog i sent her as it also mentioned NZ and we went there), i thought i'd turn to the good people of AT as I know there are some Seattle folk, or frequent visitors to Seattle that may be able to recommend good things to do, see, go to eat in Seattle, that might not be mentioned in tour books or anything like that - like, 'local secrets' - im sure she'd appreciate something different to do and experience - at the recommendation of you good people :-)

thanks in advance

There was a thread here a couple years ago...but I am sure you will get good advice here!

Dick's Drive-in is a must...

And then tell your friend to get on an Amtrak train or a Bolt Bus and head to Portland so I can give her a proper tour of the food carts... :)

My favorite dinner spot is Chinooks - part of the regional 'Anthony's' chain. Great food, service & views.

Also, naturally, I'll put in a plug for a seaplane flight around Mt. Rainier or just around the area:

Pike Place Market & underground city tour, if first time visit.

Maybe a nice ferry trip for a day, or up to the San Juan Islands for a couple of days.

Hope they have a great time!

I'm not from Seattle but we puttered around the city when we went for the New Years show. Our hotel recommended eating at the Brooklyn http://www.thebrooklyn.com/ and it was fabulous. The food was great and the service was amazing. We also really enjoyed the Experience Music Project at the base of the Space Needle. The food at the Space Needle is horrendous FYI.

The Fremont Troll (http://fremont.com/about/fremonttroll-html/)

The International District (kinda sketchy, but they have great authentic asian food and bubble tea!!! Also the HI Hostel is down there...better than the Green Tortoise and close to the Amtrak station and the lightrail to the airport, as well busses to downtown)

Olympic Sculpture Park (http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/visit/osp/)

Gasworks Park (I think that's the name...it's on Lake Union)

Ferry to Bainbridge Island for the day (never done, but lots of ATers like to do this trip during the RTR weekend)

As far as food goes...I like Local 360 and any of the numerous coffee shops that are NOT Starbucks (sorry, I just don't like the hoopla...I do drink it when there are no other options). Check out Mighty O Donuts, Top Pot Donuts, Molly Moon's Ice Cream, Cup Cake Royale....and the pierogi shop at the Pike Street Market...and Beechers too for some Mac N' Cheese.

Bringing this to the top in case people are looking for ideas on things to do in Seattle for RTR...this stuff might also belong better in the RTR thread of AT Meetups and Gatherings...
