Cayamo 2013

Postby MidwestMamacita » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:30 pm

Is anyone going to be aboard Cayamo 2013? It is going to be my first one, and I am sooooo excited! For those of you who are going, just a fun FYI: as of this morning, the Cayamo ship is officially FULL! That's a couple of weeks before the public sale was scheduled to open, if I'm not mistaken, so that is pretty awesome! I couldn't help but think what a great birthday gift it was for Brandi to happen today! :) If any of you have gone before, did you get to spend much time with her aboard the ship? She's the reason I decided to go, so I'm hoping so! If anyone is going this time, please comment - it would be fun to be in contact leading up to it, so we could build the excitement and have friends on board! -Joy

We have been on several Cayamo cruises.

The first cruise Brandi was much more visible on board...outside of show times...two years ago she spent most of her free time on board with her family. I think it is important to understand that, as a cruise-goer, we shouldn't expect anything else from any of the artists aside from their performances. True...some performers are visible and eat breakfast at the same buffets as we do. Others we rarely see. It really varies. And then there are those special moments when an artists sits down at a piano in the atrium and pours out his soul.

I wouldn't want you to be disappointed on Cayamo if you didn't get to spend time with the band outside of scheduled performances. Just my two cents...

Other Cayamoans...please chime in.

Hi Holly - thanks for the response! Believe me, I am DEFINITELY happy just to be going - it sounds like a truly amazing experience! I just wasn't sure what the norm was in termes of contact with the artists....I wasn't sure if you saw them around the ship pretty regularly or if they were more reclusive. So, thank you for offering the perspective of a "pro". It seems like Cayamo is something that's difficult to explain and you just have to be there to understand it, but I've been trying to read up on it as much as possible and have gathered there's an unspoken protocol to not bombard the artists. I fully support that. I just wasn't sure how common it was to be sitting next to them at the bar, haha. :)

I've been on every Cayamo. The reason I went on the first boat was for Brandi. She has been quite accessable in the past, especially late at night. Try the casino or shuffle boardon deck. I'm looking forward to seeing her fiance.

Look me up on facebook. I have some pictures of my Cayamo adventures. Bonnie Ford

You are all confined to a relatively limited space, so artist sightings will definitely happen, mostly in passing, and they'll probably be with family, etc...so I wouldn't count on sitting down with any of them at a meal and having a nice long chat.

We went on Cayamo 2010, and only saw Brandi wandering (and partaking in a little blackjack) once late night in the casino. Passed a ton of other artists in hallways (some of the non-headliners may even be staying on the deck you're on), Alli was one in a long line of people waiting for a treadmill in the gym while I was using it, so we just had the normal "hey, are you finished" chat when I hopped off.

For the most part, all Cayamoans I saw interacting with the artists were respectful, and kept it brief and breezy. There are always exceptions to this rule - those people will stand out like a sore thumb, so just don't become one of those people!

Keep in mind that Cayamo is something of a vacation for the artists too - treating them just like the other normal humans on the ship is probably the best way to end up casually chatting in an elevator or being greeted in passing at the buffet line.

Thanks for the insight, guys! No, no, I definitely won't be one of the crazies...I tend to just want to smack those people, haha. But, OF COURSE, I'm going to be HOPING I get to meet her and say hey! :) In the past, have the AT-ers gotten together during Cayamo? I would love to meet some of you in person and put faces with the names!

On a side note, what have some of the theme nights been in the past? I'm really looking forward to that!

ATers will have a chance to get together on the boat...details will be shared as the time nears. We haven't done much with the theme nights, but I know some ATers do. Maybe someone else will comment on that. ;)

So, I counted this morning, and we are 139 days away from setting sail!!!!

Do you think it would be fun if all of the Street Teamers brought their shirts and wore them en masse one night?? :)

Oh man! I need to check prices again and get mine booked as well! Where are you all staying the night before the cruise? Did you book one of the Cayamo-reserved rooms (can't remember the hotel) or did you book somewhere else? My brother and I still haven't decided yet...any suggestions?
